The Path Past Deception
The Path Past Deception
Brandon Joseph Baker’s Doom Loops series continues with ‘The Path Past Deception’, a 20 x 30 mixed media collage on wood panel. This work features symbolic references to the wisdom, trust, honesty and love required to move through traumatic past experiences. The source material for Baker’s collage work begins with photographs he took of an owl decoy, a model helicopter, models in his studio, the moon on February 24th 2024, a unicorn from a discount store, vegetation and clouds on his runs, a 3D Printed Roger The Skull soldier, car advertisements from Playboy Magazine in the seventies and a scientific journal about owls. Baker arranged the photos digitally, prints to scale, cuts the prints apart, reassembles, glue and hand paints into the piece. The work is covered in an archival high gloss acrylic.
‘Doom Loops’ is Brandon Joseph Baker’s series of photography and mixed media collages exploring life in San Francisco and The Bay Area. Equal parts tongue in cheek parable about media and culture and bold brightly colored symbolic art therapy for his experiences, Doom Loops challenges the viewer’s perception of reality and their understanding of the narrative surrounding their existence in San Francisco and the world at large.
